Support & Advocacy for Youth (SAY) program

What is the Support & Advocacy for Youth program?

Support and Advocacy for Youth (SAY) supports young people.Our trained youth workers offer one-to-one support as often and for as long as needed. Young people choose to be involved and we work together to make a plan and put it into action.

Who can use the Support & Advocacy for Youth program?

SAY is for people aged 12 to 17 who are at risk of becoming involved with child protection services. Our focus is on young people who live, work or study in the City of Yarra or surrounding northern suburbs. The suburbs we cover include: Collingwood, Richmond, Fitzroy, Clifton Hill, Abbotsford, Alphington, Carlton, Coburg, Fairfield, Northcote, Preston, Reservoir and Thornbury.

What does the Support & Advocacy for Youth program offer?

  • Support with matters such as:
    • staying at school
    • living at home or seeking other accommodation if needed
    • Centrelink
    • legal problems
    • feelings and wellbeing
    • recreation activities
  • We can work on behalf of the young person (advocacy) to liaise with school staff, family members, police and other support services.

How can I find out more about the Support & Advocacy for Youth program?

Please note young people require a referral from a support worker to become part of this program. Young people must also enter the program voluntarily.

Youth & Family Support (YAFS) - Alcohol and Other Drugs

What is Youth and Family Support - Alcohol and Other Drugs?

Youth & Family Support - Alcohol and Other Drugs is an outreach and referral program for young parents, including soon-to-be parents. It aims to promote positive outcomes for both female and male parents and their children, lessening the need for child protection intervention.

Who can use the Youth and Family Support - Alcohol & Other Drugs?

The program is for young parents whose use of alcohol and/or other drugs is affecting their relationship with their children. The program is for people who are living, working or attending education within the the City of Yarra, including Collingwood, Richmond, Fitzroy, Clifton Hill, Abbotsford, Alphington and Carlton North. It is a voluntary program.

What does Youth and Family Support - Alcohol and Other Drugs offer?

  • Links young parents to relevant support services, programs and activities including parenting groups, health services and children's services
  • provides information, including harm-minimisation strategies
  • provides support with connecting to an accredited carer for respite.

The program provides a flexible service that responds to the unique needs of each young parent. It aims to empower young parents to maintain the care of their children by improving their access to community resources and activities that develop feelings of self worth and connection to family and community supports
