Wimmera No Interest Loan Scheme WINS Consumer Affairs Victoria Award for 2008

Wimmera No Interest Loan Scheme (WNILS) was one of eight award winners at the Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) Awards ceremony held in Melbourne on Thursday November 27 2008.
Consumer Affairs is the state’s leading consumer protection agency.  Director of CAV, Dr. Claire Noone suggested that to achieve this CAV relies upon the assistance and support of many community agencies, businesses, industry bodies and individuals across the Victorian community.
The awards honour the important contributions and achievements of agencies such as Wimmera Uniting Care who are working to create an equitable marketplace for consumers and traders.
In accepting the award Robyn Murphy, Program Coordinator said Wimmera No Interest Loan Scheme is a program developed to provide safe and affordable finance to low income earners for the purchase of essential household, medical and educational equipment.  It is aiming to empower Wimmera community members to become responsible consumers and seek long term financial solutions.
The award acknowledges the dedication of the volunteers working on the program giving them further credibility as well as giving WNILS increased public recognition for its work with low income earners by offering them a “hand up” when needed.

NSW Government announces support for administration of NILS

Congratulations to the NILS Network of New South Wales, who have recently received details of significant funding to support the administration of NILS in NSW. The announcement follows a long campaign for support, by the members of the network, who are either volunteers, or workers or agencies that take on NILS work on top of other work responsibilities.

Queensland Government announces support for expansion of NILS

Congratulations also to the NILS network in Queensland, who have recently received news of Government support for the expansion of NILS in their state. As in New South Wales, the network has so far been dependent on volunteers, or workers taking on extra work, so the announcement is welcomed.
