The Traders' Charter (Victoria)
The Traders’ Charter is a new consumer support service for NILS Applicants, available in selected areas across Victoria. The service supports and promotes business practices that are committed to excellence in customer service standards and product affordability.
It is a local community-based service, involving NILS providers working directly with their local traders, with the support of Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service. The service is guided by a set of Charter terms. These terms are underpinned by fundamental and internationally recognised human rights, such as freedom from discrimination and the right to an adequate standard of living.
The benefits of the Traders’ Charter include:
-
NILS® providers have the support of their local traders in addressing the interests and needs of NILS Applicants
-
Local traders have the support of their local NILS provider
-
Product information and consumer rights resources for NILS Applicants: to assist in making informed, independent purchases
-
Training of traders in the requirements and objectives of NILS
The pilot phase of the Traders' Charter project was completed in June 2008. Further development will take place after the appointment of a new Project Worker.
