Housing for young people

Support and Housing for Young People (SHYP)

What is Support and Housing for Young People (SHYP)?

SHYP provides outreach support and transitional housing to young people in the community who are finding it difficult to access or maintain accommodation.

Our staff work together with young people to find accommodation and plan for a resolution to their housing issues. Outreach support can be provided for up to three months. We support young people with a range of issues they may be experiencing, focusing on realistic housing outcomes.

We also have a small number of transitional housing properties where young people can live while we assist them to achieve long-term housing goals like private rental or government public housing. We also support them with other needs such as budgeting, living skills and preparing to live independently.

Who can use Support and Housing for Young People (SHYP)?

This program is for young people aged 16-24 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in the City of Yarra and surrounding northern suburbs, including Collingwood, Richmond, Fitzroy, Clifton Hill, Abbotsford, Alphington, Carlton and Fairfield.

SHYP workers are able to support young people living in private rental, public housing, rooming houses and those who are moving from place to place.
