What is the Health and wellbeing program?

This group program for women is led by trained volunteers.  A range of holistic healing methods are offered in a safe and welcoming atmosphere across three locations:

  • Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service, 5/22 Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda
    • Wednesday night - reiki
    • Thursday night - meditation
  • Deer Park women's prison: Dame Phyllis Frost Centre
    • Friday afternoon - women's health and wellbeing
  • A private hotel in St Kilda catering for homeless and transient women. This program is known as ‘Health Time'.

Who can use the Health and Wellbeing program?

All women are welcome to get involved in the programs. The prison program is open to all women at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

What does the Health and Wellbeing program offer?

  • various forms of holistic alternative healing, including reiki, yoga, reflexology, meditation and art therapy
  • opportunities to develop and share personal skills and interests
  • opportunities to undertake training, for example a Reiki Level 1 course.

What are the benefits of the Health and Wellbeing program?

The program assists with managing stress and dealing with physical, emotional and spiritual issues. Women in prison establish a link with our service, helping develop access to supports for when they leave prison. One in ten women at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre use this program.

I go to the Reiki sessions because it is very relaxing. It's the one hour of the week I don't have to think about things. I can lose myself and totally unwind. I always feel so good and relaxed after it. It's a time I can be quiet and I don't have to talk or be on my guard.

Outlandish

What is Outlandish?

Outlandish provides opportunities for women who feel isolated to connect with each other and with the natural environment through sustainability projects and activities.

Who can use Outlandish?

This program gives priority to young women aged up to 35 years living in or connected to the City of Port Phillip area, including St Kilda, Elwood, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne Middle Park and Albert Park. We focus on women who feel isolated, find it difficult to relate to others or to get involved in other programs.
