Foster Carers and Respite Carers

Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service is now recruiting carers for children and young people.

Our professional and experienced team can help you choose the type of care and ages of children that will fit your lifestyle and family.

You can make all the difference in their world

Foster carers and respite carers provide home based care and support to children and young people in need. Carers choose the length and type of care they are willing to provide. This may be occasional weekends giving families a break (respite care) or longer term care for children and young people who can't live with their families (foster care).

We welcome and value carers from all backgrounds and lifestyles

Our carers come from all walks of life and include single people, retired people, working people, people living in flats and units, people with and without children, gay and lesbian people and people from all cultural and religious backgrounds.

We support you while you support them

Foster caring is both challenging and rewarding. Children and young people needing care have usually had difficult lives. They may have experienced abuse or neglect as well as separation from their families.

We offer:

  • training to become an accredited foster carer
  • personalised support, access to a 24-hour hotline and ongoing training and skills development, for example managing difficult behaviour
  • assistance with reimbursements for the costs of caring
  • activities to support and care for foster carers and their families.
