Wallaroo Community Centre / Good Shepherd Community House Peninsula

What is Wallaroo Community Centre?

Good Shepherd Community House Peninsula has been providing activities and support at Wallaroo Place in Hastings since 2005. In July 2010, Good Shepherd Community House was incorporated into a new purpose-built facility: Wallaroo Community Centre. The centre is managed by a community committee of management and provides a range of recreational programs, adult education and children's activities.

Who can use Wallaroo Community Centre?

All community members are welcome at the centre. Programs are low cost or free and concessions are available to Centrelink Concession Card holders.

What does Wallaroo Community Centre offer?

Activities and programs for children:

  • art and craft activities
  • skill development including computers, literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy (numbers and maths)
  • internet use
  • tool library
  • health and wellbeing sessions
  • support groups
  • gardening activities.

Wallaroo Kindergarten

What is Wallaroo Kindergarten?

Wallaroo Kindergarten is located at Wallaroo Community Centre, which incorporates Good Shepherd Community House, Hastings. Its focus is to improve the numbers of local children attending kindergarten - an important step in preparing children for school.

Who can use Wallaroo Kindergarten?

Our four year old kindergarten is open to children who have turned four before 30 April or those who are eligible for a second year of kinder. The program is free to families who are Centrelink Concession Card holders.

The three year old program operates for three hours per week and costs $150 per term. Subsidies are available for eligible families.

What does Wallaroo Kindergarten offer?

  • A broad, well rounded and enjoyable learning experience for each child
  • opportunities to exercise and develop abilities such as talking and using language, playing and getting along with others as well as physical and thinking skills
  • encouragement to develop the joy of learning.

Wallaroo Occasional Childcare

What is Wallaroo Occasional Childcare?

Wallaroo Occasional Childcare is a low cost service for young children based at Wallaroo Community Centre, Hastings. Weekly sessions give parents a break while children are cared for by our experienced, qualified staff.

Who can use Wallaroo Occasional Childcare?

We can take up to 15 children aged 0-5.

What does Wallaroo Occasional Childcare offer?

  • Weekly three hour sessions
  • low cost - $15 per child per session, pay as you go
  • opportunities for children to develop social skills
  • opportunities for parents to take a break.

Mornington Park Project

What is the Mornington Park Project?

The Mornington Park Project works with residents and other stakeholders such as businesses and community organisations to develop stronger community connections and services in the Mornington Park area. The project is a two-year partnership between Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service and Mornington Peninsula Shire, due for completion in July 2012.

Who can use the Mornington Park Project?

The project is for residents, businesses and organisations with an interest in the area.

What does the Mornington Park Project offer?

Our Community Development Worker facilitates:

  • opportunities for residents and other stakeholders to get involved in planning for the future, including consultations, activities and participation on the project reference group
  • support and encouragement for residents to get involved in planning and delivering community services
  • promotion of existing services and facilities and understanding future development needs
  • development of a long-term community vision for the area.
